'Atopos Project'

Atopos is a Greek word meaning ‘non-place’ or ‘absurd’.

Atopos is a project inspired by history imagined as a ‘non-existing’ place and an ‘absurd’ compendium of paradoxes and architectural elements.

I created this series of artworks between January and March 2023 using a reduced palette of few modulated colours and mediums on purpose.

Mixing acrylics, oil, pigments, wall enamels, spray paint, graphite-charcoal drawing and manual collages on canvases, raw-cotton canvases and different types of paper, then collected them into this set.

Their purpose is to transport the observer to a place that does not exist, until it has been painted, similarly to the effect that archeological discoveries import within human evolution and history after being discovered and analyzed by archeologists.

In ‘Atopos’, iconographical references are striclty connected to the architectural designed imaginary, balanced within the anatomical composition of ancient Egyptian characters, glimpses of ancient sacred places, temples and archeological sites.
