As official donor of the archaeological project ‘Medjehu’ I realized this sculpture inspired by part of their research:

Extract from the newsletter n°2, October 2023, ‘Project Medjehu team’

“…the abundant wooden material discovered in these two areas of the concession revealed craft practices in common with those identified at Wadi Bahariya, which housed the burials of members of the royal family, mainly associated with the pharaoh Amenhotep
III. However, there was much less use of precious woods such as Dalbergia melanoxylon, a dense
black species imported from the southern regions of Egypt, from southern Sudan to the Horn of Africa, known to the ancient Egyptians as the Land of Pount. Among the objects discovered in the tombs in Wadi 300, it was possible to identify a fragment of a musical instrument, probably
votive, which could be compared with other musical instruments discovered in the Theban region, in particular with several wooden harps using the same types of wood as those identified in Wadi 300….”

The team studies the correlation between the wood network in ancient Egypt from the predynastic period to the present day.

Circle elements placed on the subject’s head identify the symbol of datation of trees. Every single circle identify a cicle of life of the tree.

The artist has set up an LED with a switch button in the upper part of the face of the sculpture, which, once turned on, indicates the limit of a capital present in the collage element glued above.

This association imitates the architectural style of the ancient Egyptians, because the lotus-shaped capitals indicated sunrise if they were carved open and sunset if they were carved closed.

This element is inspired by the primordial abstraction elements that ancient Egyptians had in term of material sublimation, from the natural environment observation and adaptation.
