Island of Pun is a photographic superposition of the Parco della Rimembranza in Moncalieri, the Egyptian Museum in Turin, some natural environments and the temple of the Poseidonia complex in Paestum – Capaccio (SA), all united and mixed with different drawing elements in graphite. Therefore this work unites several highly symbolic places in a single imaginary space, reinterpreting each symbol according to the traditional culture of a different time and place; consequently it can be compared to a visual pun, where each element acquires new meanings within the artistic context.
This artistic practice can be understood as an opportunity to explore and overlap different layers of meaning, offering the viewer the possibility of grasping multiple interpretations. For this reason the work depicts iconic monuments of distant cultures, mixing them in a single composition to underline unexpected connections and to ironically use a dystopian pun on the concept of cultural identity. This artistic approach draws attention to the complex relationships between symbols and meanings, offering an original and stimulating perspective.
Through the use of visual elements, the artist can convey complex concepts and provoke reflections on cultural and historical dynamics. In this sense, the work becomes a vehicle for exploring the intersections between different traditions and for challenging interpretative conventions. Here we find a treasure island founded on the mixture of different elements of human knowledge.
This pun pushes us to reflect. Through this fusion, the artist offers a new perspective on the complex interaction between cultures and values. We have an opportunity to explore cultural and historical dynamics through art, and to reflect on unexpected connections and renewed meanings.
